Why the dichotomy?
I am often
Only who I'm not,
But you don't care
So long as I have words for you.
You can't understand
(Through no fault of your own?)
That who I am
Is not the me you see.
Do you want to work on that?
They ask.
No, I don't;
I want to be free.
But in this world
The only freedom
Is to be
Everything you aren't.
You, too.
That is beautifully written and strikes to the heart of the matter
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. Thank you for writing and posting this poem. I'm going to send it to my Mom. She'll understand, too.
